GUWAHATI: WWF-India's Wild Wisdom Global Challenge was launched in 2008 to embed the seed of environmental conservation among schoolchildren in a fun-filled and interactive manner. This year's Wild Wisdom Global Challenge is themed 'Birds of the World' and is open to students from classes 6 to 9. The quiz is conducted at the classroom level, school level, state level, national level, and international level. The North-East Finale of the State-Level Wild Wisdom Global Challenge 2023 was held on November 3 at Royal Global University here in Guwahati.

This year, in the North East, 205 schools with 36,464 students registered for the quiz, and after the school level, 139 schools qualified for the state level. A total of 80 schools with 160 students participated in the North East final at Guwahati, along with schools from Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Tripura, and various districts of Assam. WWF-India Assam and Arunachal Pradesh State Office had partnerships with CBSE RO, KVS ROs at Guwahati, Tinsukia, and Silchar, the Archdiocese, Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, and BSG-NER in almost all DPS schools. Many VKVs, APS, KVs, MVMs, Don Bosco Schools, and St. Mary's Schools across the NE States participated.

The programme started with auspicious lamp lighting by Chief Guest Lakhan Lal Meena, Regional Officer, CBSE RO, Guwahati; Archita Baruah Bhattacharyya, WWF-India State Coordinator, Assam and Arunachal State Office; and Binita Jain, Vice Principal of Royal Global School. Bhattacharyya, WWF, in her welcome address, opined that the quiz is not just a competition but a celebration of knowledge, curiosity, and commitment for the conservation of the diverse avian life that graces our planet. The quiz was conducted by renowned quiz master Abhra Das.

In a closely contested competition for the North East Champion Title of the Wild Wisdom Global Challenge, the five finalists-Sarla Birla Gyan Jyoti School, Assam, represented by Ritvik Anand, class 6, and Garvita Jain, class 8, emerged as North East Champions. The 2nd position was bagged by the team from Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Tezpur, Assam, and the 3rd by South Point School, Guwahati, followed by DPS Duliajan and DPS Dibrugarh, Assam. The champion team of Sarla Birla Gyan Jyoti School will represent North East in the national level to be held online this month.
