GUWAHATI: Popular Assamese cine artiste Zerifa Wahid left the Raijor Dal (RD) and joined the AJP (Assam Jatiya Parishad) on Monday.

Joining the AJP, Wahid said, "There are some sort of irregularities in the Raijor Dal that have led me to join the AJP. I'll work for the Assamese society and the public, not for personal life.

"Though I've left the Raijor Dal, I do support the party and its candidates. My good will for them will always be there. I never sought ticket from the Raijor Dal. They did offer me ticket, but I refused."

Dr. Anish Ahmed, the joint secretary of the Assam Football Association Sombhid Sarma, social activist Abul Kalam, ex-AAMSU leader Jahirul Haque and others also joined the AJP along with the cine star.

Speaking on the occasion, AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi said, "This time there will be a poll battle of civilizations. The civilization of Sankar-Azan will be back in the State."
