GUWAHATI: The Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Guwahati, Shah Mohd Tanvir Monsur, has advocated for a festival of Assamese films in his country.

Monsur, while participating in the concluding ceremony of the third edition of Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF) on Wednesday evening, said similar festival of Assamese films could be organized in Bangladesh. He said language cannot be a barrier in organizing such a festival as both Assamese & Bengali are understandable for the people on both sides of the border.

Two films from Bangladesh namely Fagun Haway by Tauquir Ahmed and Komola Rocket by Noor Imran Mithus were screened at this year’s GIFF.

Monsur, who recently watched the Assamese films-- Kanchanjanga, Ratnakar and Bulbul Can Sing -- said he will try to place a formal proposal on organizing the festival of Assamese films in Dhaka before the Bangladesh as well Assam Governments.

“We are planning a single country festival in Guwahati. I have already discussed with Information Minister of Bangladesh that Dhaka should come in a big way to organize the festival. Hopefully the festival will be organized in February or May in 2020 where films of Assam and Bangladesh will be screened,” Monsur said.
