GUWAHATI: Assam’s Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal today visited several parts of the city to take stock of the developments under various beautification projects that are being carried out across the capital city. GMDA Chairman Narayan Deka and the officials of GMDA and DoHUA also accompanied the minister on this. The minister visited several parts of the city, including the riverbank in the Kachari, Panbazar, and Fancy Bazar localities of the city. Where he inspected the ongoing work of the renovation of the old SP bungalow and the old DC office for the riverfront beautification project. He also visited Nehru Park, which is being revamped as part of the same project. He also interacted with the flower vendors who have set up shop in the Panbazar locality of the city regarding the issues and problems they are facing. He then ordered the concerned officials to take note and resolve these issues as soon as possible.

He also visited the site of the proposed botanical garden in the old jail campus located in Fancy Bazar as a part of the inspection carried out today and mentioned that the lotus pond will be an attraction when the project is completed. He also mentioned that once completed, the developed river bank will provide an excellent view to all the people visiting the city and an opportunity to appreciate the natural beauty, which was not previously possible.

The minister mentioned that the renovation of the Old SP Bungalow is going on and that it will be added to the Brahmaputra Heritage Museum Project. He added,” The old DC office area will also be joined in to create around 30 bighas of empty space in the middle of the city, on the banks of the river. Renovation work is going on in full swing, and electrical work remains. We are hopeful that we will be able to complete these projects and open them to the public in the coming two months.”
