GUWAHATI: AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal has raised the demand for a survey to assess the loss incurred due to the Baghjan oil well blowout in Tinsukia district.

In a statement issued to the media on Thursday, Ajmal said, "Loss suffered by people in the form of crops, livestock, arable land etc should be properly assessed and fittingly compensated. This apart, educated youths of the affected area should be given rehabilitation by OIL by holding skill development programmes. The loss of fertility of cultivable land in the area due to the blowout should be inspected by a team of agriculture scientists and suggest measures. Like Japan, OIL should adopt technologies that can signal possible occurrences of oil blowout. Japan can predict volcanic eruption with the help of advanced technologies."

As the CEO of Ajmal Foundation, Ajmal had directed Foundation's office-bearers to distribute cloths and food materials among the affected people now staying in relief camps. The officials of the Foundation distributed cloths and food worth Rs 10 lakh among the affected people. The Foundation also handed over cheques amount to Rs 50,000 to the next of kin of Tikheswar Gohain and Durlab Gogoi, two OIL employees who were killed in the blowout."
