GUWAHATI: Assam Survey and Settlement Training Centre (ASSTC) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the North-East Space Application Centre (NESAC) for five years in presence of Jogen Mohan, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Revenue and Disaster Management at the ASSTC Campus in Guwahati. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister hailed NESAC for coming forward in this connection. He informed the gathering about the three major components of the MoU, which include, free of cost certificate and diploma courses by NESAC at ASSTC for producing trained individuals in order to generate employment, updated GIS based technology usage for better land management and conducting research projects, seminars, workshops etc., in the field of modern land management. The Minister also reiterated that the Government is committed to turning ASSTC into a centre of excellence, which has a long chequered history since its inception in 1882, and now stands as a Heritage Department.

The signatories of the MoU were Principal of ASSTC Pankaj Chakravarty and Director of NESAC P.L.N Raju. Other dignitaries present at the occasion were, Nazrul Islam, Retired IAS officer and Mentor of ASSTC, M.S. Manivannan, Chief Executive Officer, Assam State Disaster Management Authority, Gitanjali Bhattacharyya, Additional Secretary, Revenue & Disaster Management Department along with a host of senior scientists from NESAC, stated a release.
