GUWAHATI:  In order to expand the coverage of Atal Pension Yojna, an APY Outreach Program was conducted at Guwahati on 03.12.2021 by the SLBC Assam.

The meeting was chaired by Dr Deepak Mohanty, Whole Time Member, PFRDA. Suranjana Dutta, Convenor SLBC Assam (GM-NW-I of SBI), in her welcome address urged all the member banks to participate actively in taking APY to the corners of the state.

Dr. Deepak Mohanty in his keynote address emphasised the need of Pension to secure old age income security in our country. He also congratulated all the bankers for their excellent performance despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and appealed to them to continue the good work till the saturation of APY coverage in the state. He mentioned that the total enrolment in the Assam state is 7.7 lakh and there is a large uncovered population to be covered. He suggested banks use technology and BC Model to achieve the saturation of APY in both rural and urban areas of the state.

During the program, LDMs and the bankers in the state were also felicitated for their exemplary performance in the enrolment under APY.

Atal Pension Yojana is a guaranteed pension scheme of the Government of India which can be any Citizen of India between the age group of 18-40 years. The scheme has triple benefits on attaining the 60 years of age: First, it gives lifetime monthly fixed pension in the range of ? 1,000-5,000, Second, the spouse gets the same amount of pension for lifetime on subscriber's demise and thirdly return of the entire accumulated corpus is returned to the nominee. Around 3.56 crore subscribers across the country are enrolled under the scheme.

Dr Mohanty said, "PFRDA will be continuing its efforts to take APY subscriber base to greater heights and contribute towards making India a pensioned society".

The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by ShriSusantha Kumar Sahoo, DGM, SLBC, Local Head Office, State Bank of India.
