Authorities to take steps towards renovation of Assam State Zoo

GUWAHATI: In a bid to improve the tourist amenities as well as ensure the well-being of the captive animals, the Assam State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden is taking several steps towards the renovation of the infrastructure.

The officials mentioned that the authorities will be taking steps to create new enclosures while revamping the existing ones. The new enclosure will be created to accommodate newer inmates in the facility, while the revamped ones will be for the benefit of those already being accommodated in the zoo. A veterinary facility on the campus will also help in the treatment of any infected or injured animal as well as the rehabilitation of animals involved in human-animal conflicts in the region. Steps will also be taken towards the welfare of the people working at the facility.

For the benefit of the people visiting the zoo, a new auditorium will be created on the premises. This infrastructure will help organise events for the spreading of awareness as well as special talks and other events by experts in different fields. In order to overcome the problem of ample parking in the facility, a modern parking infrastructure will also be created on the premises of the zoo. A new park will also be created on the campus in a bid to increase the green cover of trees in the city. This will also help in disseminating information regarding the local plants and trees in the region.
