Bag-snatching incident in Lachit Nagar, one arrested

GUWAHATI: Paltan Bazar police, on Saturday, arrested a youth in the bag-snatching incident that took place at the Lachit Nagar area here on Friday evening. The snatched bag contained Rs 2.5 lakh besides other documents.

On Friday night, Police picked up Rokibul Hoque from a rented house at Swaraj Nagar in Dispur. He hails from Barpeta. He was produced before the Court of CJM (Chief Judicial Magistrate) on Saturday morning. The Court sent Rokibul to two-day police custody.

Sources informed that two youths on a pulsar bike had snatched the bag from Ritumoni Gayan, who later registered a case (344/21 u/s 392) in the Police Station. According to Police, Ritumoni identified Rokibul in the police station. Ritumoni had taken out the cash from the Bhangagarh branch of SBI (State Bank of India). Police is yet to recover the money. Investigation is on to identify other members of the gang.
