GUWAHATI: The Basistha Police has not yet been able to solve the mysterious murder of Neha Kumari, whose body was recovered from a drain in the Patarkuchi area on April 13.

The police have grilled 9 persons to date. However, no arrests have been made so far.

On the afternoon of April 10, Kumari was on her way home after attending a training session at a cutting and embroidery centre in the Patarkuchi area. While on her way home, she was talking over the phone with her 'lover' Rahul Gupta, who stays in Delhi. A police source stated that Gupta heard the hue and cry of Kumari while she was on the call with him. After some time at around 1:50 pm, Gupta found that Kumari's phone was switched off following which he informed the latter's mother about the incident. In that evening, Kumari's mother lodged an FIR at the Basistha Police Station following which a case (346/21) was registered. Her body was recovered on April 13.

The police source underlined that a sandal was found at the crime spot. Meanwhile, the police are yet to receive the forensic and post mortem reports. Gupta was also called from Delhi for interrogation.

"The body was found after around three days of her disappearance. It had already started to decompose. The police are also investigating whether the accused used any chemical to decompose the body," the source added.
