Guwahati:
The Bharat Bandh (Nationwide shutdown) was observed in Guwahati on Tuesday from
11 AM to 3 PM as shops, businesses were completely shut.
People supported the cause of the farmers and protest
rallies were also organized on the streets of Guwahati to show solidarity with
the farmers of the nation amid the Bharat Bandh called by the protesting
farmers in Delhi borders.
Assam State Krishak Sabha, All India Road Transport Workers Federation, and several other organizations including Left organizations were seen taking to the streets of Guwahati and protesting against the three farm laws passed in Parliament recently.
Protests were staged in Khanapara, Kahilipara,
Chandmari, and many other places in and around Guwahati.
The protesters raised anti-government slogans and
demanded the retraction of the farm laws. They have also demanded immediate
compliance with the demands of the farmers.
In Fancy Bazar all the business establishments were completely shut whereas in Kahilipara the protesters have blocked a road burning tyres in front of the T.A.B Jatiya Vidyalaya near the Dakshin gaon Tinali area of Kahilipara.
Police detained at least six of the protesters for
obstructing the public road and trying to create disturbance in the area.
At the same time in Chandmari area of Guwahati, the
protesters of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti burnt the effigy of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi.
Over 15 Opposition parties, including the IndianNational Congress (INC), Aam Admi Party (AAP), and many more along with several
trade unions backed the protest call while the Bharat Bandh was observed in
around 10,000 places in 25 states.
Union home minister Amit Shah had called for a meeting with the farmers on Tuesday evening while the farmer leaders claimed that their 'Bharat Bandh' against the three farm laws has been successful and had its impact in 25 states around the country. They demanded just a "yes or no" to their demands from Home Minister Amit Shah at today's meeting.
Another round of talks with the Government is scheduled
for Wednesday (December 9).
