Bhattadev University Bajali wins Parag Kumar Das Memorial Debate

GUWAHATI: Bhattadev University, Bajali was adjudged the best team in the Parag Kumar Das All Assam Memorial Inter-College Debate Competition that was held for the final time at the Rabindra Bhavan here.

The debate event was held on the silver jubilee year of the competition that was started in 1997. The competition is held in memory of journalist Parag Kumar Das. Assam Engineering College, Guwahati was declared the second best team while JB College, Jorhat secured the third spot. Gunjan Rajbongshi of Bhattadev University was declared the best debater while Touhid Alam of National Law University emerged as the second best debater. Manoj Kumar Baruah of Darrang College secured the third rank.

A motivational prize was awarded to Sudipta Saikia of Bahona College. As many as 46 debaters from 23 colleges and university took part in the competition which was presided over by former Gauhati High Court judge Prashant Kumar Deka. The motion for the debate was 'Solely for centralizing more power, the Union Government is not interested in resolution of the inter-state border disputes of Northeast of India'. For the first time the competition was held online. A beautiful photo and a souvenir showcasing the glorious 25-year journey was unveiled on the occasion.
