BIEO nabs bank fraud accused from Dibrugarh

GUWAHATI: The Bureau of Investigation of Economic Offences (BIEO) arrested one Samarjit Mazumdar (49), an employee of the Bank of India, from Dibrugarh on Monday night on charges of defrauding the bank.

According to BIEO sources, Mazumdar has confessed to embezzling Rs 3.10 crore along with some other persons, including the then manager of the Dibrugarh branch of the Bank of India, one Deben Hazarika, and the then manager of the bank's Digboi branch, Dona Das.

Mazumdar was produced in the CJM's court here today in connection with BIEO Police Station case No. 3/2020 U/S 120(b)/420/406/409/468 IPC, the sources added.
