Bike rallies shall not be allowed at any place 72 hours before Polls: EC

GUWAHATI: In a letter sent to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Assam on Monday the Election Commission of India said that "bike rallies shall not be allowed at any place 72 hours before the date of poll and/or on the poll day in all poll going constituencies". This is in supersession of all instructions issued from time to time related to the matter mentioned above, the Commission said.

It has been brought to the notice Election of the Commission that in some places "bikes are used by some antisocial elements to intimidate the voters before the poll day and/or on poll day".

The letter also asked the State CEO to inform all concerned stakeholders, including candidates/political parties and Commission's observers for strict compliance of this instruction. A similar letter has also been sent to the CEOs of other poll-bound States of the country – Kerala, Puducherry (UT), Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
