GUWAHATI: Along with their counterparts in other States of the country, the BJP Assam Pradesh is going to start its membership drive in the State from July 6 to August 11, 2019. The State BJP had a meeting here on Saturday on the party’s membership drive.

BJP’s national president Amit Shah, at a meeting in New Delhi recently, asked all presidents of State committees of the party to raise the strength of their members by 20 per cent. Present at the meeting here on Saturday are national party general secretary and in-charge of the Northeast Ram Madhab, State party president Ranjit Kumar Dass, State organizational general secretary Phanindra Sarma and others. The presidents and general secretaries of all district committees of the party were also present at the meeting.

Talking to the media here, State party president Ranjit Kumar Dass said: “Similar meetings will be held in each and every district committee of the party on June 31. Such meetings will also be held in the mandal committees of the party. We’ve a policy to raise membership after every three years. Now we’ve 29 lakh members in Assam, and our target now is to make it 40 lakh.”

On the party’s mission 100, Dass said that the party is quite certain to win at least 90 seats. He said that the membership drive of the party is going to cover all communities – tea garden areas, minority-dominated areas and tribal areas. “The strength of our members will go up in minority-dominated areas, and that will have its impact in the Jania by-poll. We’re sure to win the seat,” he said.

Ram Madhab said: “We fought ten seats in Assam in the recent Lok Sabha poll, and came out winner in nine seats securing 65 lakh (54 per cent) votes. Our membership drive will cover all areas so that we can win all elections, including that of local bodies.”
