GUWAHATI: The State unit of the BJP said on Thursday that the party-led Government in the State has taken bold steps for the all-round development of the tea garden workers.

Addressing the media here, State BJP general secretary and MP Pallab Lochan Das said that although the Congress was in power for six decades in the State, but the rate of increase of tea garden workers' daily wage was minimal during that time, with an overall increase of up to Rs 137. In 1991, the then Congress Government increased the daily wage by only Rs 2, by Rs 1.75 in 1994, by Rs 6 in 1999, by Rs 5.45 in 2022, by Rs 2.60 in 2005, by Rs 3.70 in 2008, by Rs 8 in 2010, by Rs 5 in 2012 and Rs 21 in 2015.

On the other hand, Das said, the BJP Government has increased the overall daily wage to Rs 232 in six years. This included an increase of Rs 30 in 2017, Rs 38 in 2021 and Rs 27 on Wednesday.
