GUWAHATI: "The ruling alliance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)- Asom Gana Parishad (AGP)- United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) will win the bye-elections in all the six Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs)," said State BJP president Bhabesh Kalita while talking to media persons on Tuesday.
Kalita added that after the Election Commission of India (ECI) announces the schedule for the election, the BJP-AGP-UPPL alliance will declare the names of the candidates. He further said that in the Tamalpur LAC, UPPL had fielded its candidate in the 2021 assembly polls and the UPPL candidate had won. So in the bye-election, it is almost confirmed that UPPL will field its candidate in the Tamalpur LAC, he said.
"In Gossaigaon LAC, the UPPL candidate was defeated by the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) candidate. So which party of the alliance will contest from this LAC will be decided later," said Kalita.
The two-day State BJP executive meeting will be held in North Guwahati from Wednesday where several national BJP leaders, including Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, will take part. The bye-elections, municipal body election and the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) election, along with other issues, will be discussed in the meeting, said the BJP State president.
