GUWAHATI: BJP Assam Pradesh president Ranjeet Kumar Dass expressed grief over the demise of folk cultural researcher, artiste and educationist Phul Kumari Kalita.
Folk culture researcher and retired professor of Howli BH College Phul Kumari Kalita breathed her last at Digboi on Sunday at the age of 71. She leaves behind her husband Nabin Kalita and four daughters. She had a number of books – Sakhi oi Sakhi (1992), Ayatir Uruli (1992), Guwagasa Xatra Somu Abhas (1999), Lokosanskritir Dapon (2000), Lokasanskritit Gali Soponi (2019), Lokasanskritir Shoba (2013) and Aamaar Xatra Aamaar Oitijya (2013), besides a book edited by her Lokasanskriti aru Naari (1993) – to her credit.
She received the Pratibha Pandey Baruh Award from the AASU (All Assam Students' Union) for her contribution to the folk culture of Assam. In his condolence message, Dass said, "The demise of the author who wrote a number of books has been an irreparable loss to the Assamese literary world. I pray to God for her eternal peace." A number of other individuals and organizations of the State also condoled the death of the writer.
