GUWAHATI: State BJP president Ranjit Kumar Das Das has said that the BJP in the State needs cadres, not leaders.
Such a statement from the State BJP president is significant as it has been said at a time when there are rumours doing the rounds that a number of State Congress leaders have lined up to join the BJP.
Talking to the media at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan here on Wednesday, Das said, “The BJP is a cadre-based party, not a leader-based one. If anyone comes to serve the party and the nation as a cadre, we’ve nothing to say. However, if anybody wants to join the party as a leader or seeks some sort of assurances from it, they’ve no room in the party.”
Ranjit Kumar Das said: “The process of enrollment of 11 lakh new active members in the party is underway. We’ve already enrolled six lakh new active members. We’re hopeful of surpassing the target, and may enroll up to 15 lakh active members. If anybody wants to join the BJP among the 15 lakh active members, we’ve no objection.”
The State BJP president also told the media that his party is certainly going to field candidates in the coming BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) election slated for 2020. “We’ve our allies, the BPF and the AGP. We’ll discuss the BTC poll with them and take steps,” he said.
This will be the fourth BTC election since its inception in 2003. The BPF has been ruling the politico-administrative setup since then.
There is a clash between the BJP and the BPF, as the latter doesn’t want any aggression from the national party in the BTAD area.
