Post-COVID-19 Complications: Gossaigaon BPF MLA Majendra Narzary Passes Away

GUWAHATI: Senior Bodoland People's Front (BPF) MLA of Gossaigaon constituency, Majendra Narzary passed away due to post-COVID-19 complications at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on May 26.

Narzary who was on ventilation at the GMCH, breathed his last at 5:50 AM. The Bodoland Peoples' Front (BPF) leader was 68 and is survived by his wife and four children.

Notably, at his death, Assam Chief Minister and State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta were present at the GMCH along with BPF leader Durga Das Boro. Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi condoled the untimely demise of Gossaigaon MLA Majendra Narzary.

In a statement here today, Prof. Mukhi said, "It is really unfortunate to have lost a public representative like Majendra Narzary who has still got so much to offer to the people and the state". The death of a hard working, committed, dedicated MLA like him is a great loss to the society. He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed to the Almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul.

Meanwhile, taking to his Twitter handle, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, "I am pained to learn about the untimely demise of Gossaigaon MLA Majendra Narzary. A dedicated social worker, committed politician and deeply loved, his absence shall be sorely missed. My heartfelt condolences to the family and prayers for eternal peace of the noble soul."

The Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker, Biswajit Daimary, Deputy Speaker Dr. Numal Momin also paid their last tribute to the BPF leader.

"Though he had won against COVID, unfortunately, he succumbed to comorbidity issues…my condolences to his family and well-wishers," health minister Keshab Mahanta said. On the other hand, Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary has condoled the demise of Gossaigaon MLA Majendra Narzary. In a condolence statement, the Minister said, 'Majendra Narzary was a leader of the masses. As an MLA, he contributed immensely for the development of the people of his constituency and the state as a whole. His demise is an irreparable loss.'

The leader of opposition, Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia, State BJP President Ranjeet Kumar Dass, AGP President Atul Bora and APCC president Ripun Bora also condoled the demise the senior BPF leader from Gossaigaon.

Notably, minister for Environment and Forest, Fisheries and Excise, Parimal Suklabaidya and Minister for Handloom & Textiles etc, Urkhao Gwra Brahma visited the Gossaigaon residence of deceased MLA Majendra Narzary.

At the direction of Chief Minister, Dr.Himanta Biswa Sarma, the two Cabinet ministers went to the residence of the deceased MLA in the evening and paid their last respects by laying floral wreaths on the mortal remains on behalf of the state government.

The ministers also expressed their heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

Mourning the untimely demise of Narzary, Suklabaidya said he passed away when he had so much to contribute towards the development of his constituency and Assam as a whole. Terming him as an epitome of simplicity and a leader of the masses, Suklabaidya said the void created by his untimely death would be hard to fill.
