The news of Rohit's Covid-19 positive status has come to light moments after a city-based media personnel tested positive for the virus, becoming the first from the industry to be infected with the much-feared contagion.

At the same time, around 80 areas have been sealed as Containment Zones in by the district's administration, 20 of which were added yesterday.

The number of Covid-19 cases in the city have continued to spike upwards and cases rose from 114 to 228 in just 4 days.

Community Transmission Fears in Guwahati:

The Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that around 25 cases in the city area do not have any travel history. In recent times, the truck drivers who come from other states bringing essential commodities have come under increasing scrutiny.

Health authorities are of the opining that the sites of loading and unloading of trucks and their parking could be the zones of transmission of the virus. Sarma also said that clusters of cases have been detected in areas adjacent to such spots.

Meanwhile, the Government is prepping to conduct 50,000 random tests in the city to check for signs of an outbreak in the community stage. Biswa Sarma has even gone so far as to suggest that the city dwellers might have to buckle up for another lockdown if the number of Covid-19 positive cases exceed 500 during this period of checking and screening.
