GUWAHATI: Look at this road. The picture above says it all. The bridge with two metal plates broken and taken away at one of its ends is a veritable deathtrap. The other side of the road is littered with filth.
It is in fact a lane that leads one either to Walford at GS Road or to Arya Bhatta Junior College near Nursery on RG Baruah Road. This lane is meant for pedestrians and two-wheelers, but as often as not, bigger cars also ply on it.
A person of the locality said, "A section of people come and pick up the metal plates of the bridge at night, making the bridge unfit for use. Accidents do occur at this spot, especially at night. Bike riders and pedestrians may face fatal accidents at this spot. The gap is going to widen as a few other metal plates on the bridge are also about to give in."
Another person of the locality said, "This lane is not for bigger vehicles to ply on. We need blame it on bigger cars that ply on this lane for the present condition of the lane and the bridge."
