Bureau of Investigation Assam destroyed 1,405 cartons of IMFL bottles in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: A total of 1,405 cartons of seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) bottles were destroyed by the Bureau of Investigation (BIEO) Assam, Guwahati, on Tuesday.

The huge quantity of seized liquor was in presence of judicial magistrate and others. Earlier, based on information, the BIEO had raided the godown premises of Rajesh Kumar Jalan located near Sarusajai Stadium and recovered 1,405 cartons of Old Harbour Rum, Kingfisher Beer, Absolute Vodka and liquor of different brands. The cartons were seized and kept in a warehouse in the city.

After disposal of the case chargesheet and with due permission of the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kamrup (metro), the seized liquor bottles were destroyed in presence of Judicial Magistrate, Superintendent of Police, BIEO, MM Boro, Deputy Superintendent of Excise and media personnel. The total value of the destroyed liquor is Rs 47 lakh, exclusive of tax. The exercise was related to BIEO PS case no 17/2017 U/S 120(B)./420/406/409 IPC R/W Sec 53(i)(a)(d)(e)/54/60(i), Assam Excise Act.
