GUWAHATI: The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has condemned in strong terms the alliance between the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) for the ensuing bye-elections to the Majuli constituency.
State BJP spokesperson Lakhya Konwar told the media at the party headquarters here on Saturday that "this nefarious alliance of AJP and AIUDF will never be acceptable to the people of Assam."
He said that the AJP took birth during 'CAA' agitation and its president Lurin Jyoti Gogoi and leaders like Jagadish Bhuyan had then promised the people of Assam that the AJP will relentlessly strive to fight for the rights of the indigenous Assamese people. Lurinjyoti Gogoi had said that the AJP would never form a political alliance with the BJP, Congress and the communal AIUDF.
However, Konwar said, the AJP has forgotten its promise and regional character in order to protect its political identity.
He further remarked that the Congress gifted xatras' land to the Bangladeshis and maligned the glorious culture of Assam.
The AJP had formed an alliance with the Congress in the first bye-elections and lost miserably. Now the AJP has taken the help of the AIUDF, which is a supporter of the encroachers of xatra land, he said.
Konwar asserted that the AJP candidate is going to suffer a great defeat at the hands of the BJP candidate in the Majuli bye-election.
"The unholy alliance of the AJP and AIUDF has been formed with a mala fide intention of winning the Majuli bye-election and this alliance is an insult to the people of Majuli and Assam," he said.
Konwar warned the AJP to keep away negative forces like the AIUDF from the holy land of Majuli, to preserve its sanctity.
