CCEEEP urge political parties to take stance against Electricity Bill 2021

GUWAHATI: The Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees Engineers & Pensioners (CCEEEP) has appealed to the political parties who are against the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) to include provisions to scrap the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2021 in their respective election manifestos.

"Our Committee appreciates the political parties who have taken moves against this Bill. So, we appeal to the political parties to take steps to root out the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2021 and to include it in their respective election manifestos," said a CCEEEP statement released on Saturday.

The CCEEEP asserted that the private players will rule the power sector with the 'sole intention of making profits' if the present Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2021 is passed.

"To privatize the electricity sector, the BJP-led Central government has taken many steps. Meanwhile, to amend the Electricity Act, 2003, the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2021 has already been placed. The Bill has provisions to de-license the power distribution works besides handing over various divisions of the sector to private entrepreneurs of the country as well as abroad," the CCEEEP statement said.

It added, "All the employees of Electricity Department feels that the privatization of the electricity sector in Assam will affect all round-development of the State. The department which was established with the support of the public will bring calamity in the lives of people if it is privatized. Moreover, the small industries will also face problems due to this Bill."

Further, the CCEEEP slammed the State government for allegedly accepting the order of the Centre to privatize the electricity sector and termed the move as 'pathetic'.
