GUWAHATI: The central government employees from various establishments staged a protest on Tuesday with their demand to scrape the New Pension Scheme (NPS) and to restore the Old Defined Benefit Pension Scheme. Representative from all central government employees particularly from postal department, income tax department and many others staged the protest in front of the Meghdoot Bhavan. The protest was organized by Co- Ordination Committee of Central Government Employees and Workers, Assam State and All India Postal and RMS Pensioners Association, Assam.
Secretary of both the organizations, DK Debnath said, “Our main demand is to scrap New Contributory Pension Scheme (NPS) and that old defined benefit pension scheme (OPS) should be restored. We also demands to fill up six lakh vacant posts in the Central government departments. Besides other demands including extension of Pension Parity Orders to Compulsorily Retired Pensioners, immediate implementation of orders of Pension Ministry dated 9-7-2019. We also oppose privatization of Railways, Defence and Postal departments and we urge the government to withdraw closure orders of Government of India Printing Presses.”
