GUWAHATI: Protesting the move of the GMC (Gauhati Municipal Corporation) for shifting the garbage-dumping ground from Boragaon, a huge gathering of Chandrapur public 'gheraoed' the Revenue Circle office at Chandrapur on Thursday.

The protestors congregated at the 'Panikhaiti Anchalik Bihutoli' under the banner of the 'Dumping Ground Birodhi Mancha, Chandrapur', in the morning. Then they proceeded in a procession to the Revenue Circle office premises.

Participating in the protest demonstration, AASU (All Assam Students Union) president Dipanko Kumar Nath said, "It is quite strange that the government has not given any positive response to the protests of the public. This is despite the fact that the masses of Chandrapur have been continuously carrying on their demonstrations daily for the last 1 month and four days.

"We demand that the move to shift the dumping ground to Chandrapur must stopped. Simultaneously, the government must also initiate steps to transform the place into a tourist-destination spot. Our movement will continue.
