GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today reviewed the construction work of Swahid Smarak and Park at Paschim Boragaon in Guwahati, currently under construction in memory of martyrs of the Assam Agitation with a financial outlay of Rs 180 crore.

The construction may be complete by next year. Around 50% of the work is over.

The park will have a 13-floor Swahid Smarak, an open-air theatre, a library-cum-auditorium, a yoga centre, a cycling track etc. The complex will have a food court with cuisines of the Northeastern states and a play area for children.

Seventy per cent of the site will remain as a wetland. The approach road to the site needs widening.

The authorities will float the tender for the second phase of the project in two months, and the entire project will compete within two to three years. The project will emerge as a tourist destination.

Minister Atul Bora, MP Pabitra Margherita and the Special Commissioner & Secretary of PWD Raj Chakraborty were also present at the review meeting.
