GUWAHATI: Expressing grave concern over the present situation arising out of the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA)-2019, the Assam Christian Forum has sought a solution to Section 144 CrPC imposed in the State in the run-up to Christmas.
The spokesperson for the Forum, Allen Brooks told The Sentinel on Saturday that they have appealed to the Assam Police to take steps so that the people who celebrate Christmas or take part in the rituals and festivities are not affected by the present tense situation in the State.
“The people will gather during Christmas not only to celebrate the festival but also to celebrate peace. We hope they can come forward to celebrate without any obstacles. We appreciate the security measures taken in view of the present situation. The Forum wants sensitization of the police and other security personnel so that they do not disturb the people who will come out from their homes to perform various rituals associated with Christmas celebrations,” Brooks said. The Forum has also asked all the churches to write to their local police stations to ensure that the people’s security is ensured, added Brooks.
The Forum, in a statement, said in a meeting held on Thursday that its leaders felt deeply pained to witness the “insensitivity” of the current set of policy makers at the Centre and the State towards the anxieties of the people of India and Assam in particular, expressed over a long period of time.
