GUWAHATI: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has started its investigation regarding Rituparna Pegu's murder, said a department source. The sleuths will take the 5 accused in custody and are inspecting the CCTV footages.
The officials took video recordings at the crime scene on Sunday and are also checking the criminal history of the accused, said the source. They have recovered the mobile phones of accused Hussain Ali and Ibrahim Ali from two persons. The sleuths have detained the persons for interrogation. It is to be mentioned that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday ordered the CID to initiate an investigation into the murder.
Meanwhile, All Assam Tribal Sangha and Coordination Committee of the Tribal Organizations of Assam (CCTOA) condemned the murder and demanded stringent punishment to the accused. CCTOA chief convenor Aditya Khaklari demanded a high-level inquiry and said that the punishment to be given to the accused should set an example for the people not to commit such heinous crimes.
