Citizens' forum opposes offline classes, exams due to new strain of COVID-19

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Yuba Nagarik Samity (GYNS) has opposed the conduct of offline classes and examinations due to the new strain of COVID-19 in the State and Guwahati.

President and general secretary of GYNS Er Kailash Sarma and Rajesh Sarma have opposed the ongoing offline classes and forthcoming offline annual examination scheduled to be held from last week of February and first week of March respectively in almost all the schools of Guwahati.

Sarma said that the present scenario of the increasing cases of this deadly strain of coronavirus may spread to the children as well as elderly people.

The GYNS president and the general secretary underlined that already some renowned schools of Guwahati have been affected with this deadly virus.

"On Tuesday, COVID-19 cases were detected in city's Marias Public School. Besides this, some persons from Dibrugarh, Biswanath, Mankachar etc have been infected with the virus. So, it is high time to stop all the ongoing offline classes, and online classes and examinations should be conducted for Guwahati-based schools. Otherwise, a very dangerous situation will arise in the days ahead for which the government and concerned administration will be responsible," the GYNS added.
