GUWAHATI: The Guwahati police on Friday night raided a residence on charges of hosting a party.
According to reports, the residence belongs to one Vikas Jain, a city-based builder. Police also seized cocaine and other contrabands during its operation.
Police arrested seventeen people including Vikas Jain and registered a case against them at Latasil Police station.
Police said that the charges if proved will indicate that the consumption of the drug in the city is rampant with supply lines still existing despite the massive war against drugs by the Assam Police.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also tweeted in terms of the raid. He said, "Fights against drugs continue – @GuwahatiPol is now raiding a drugs party at Kharghuli. Operation is on Cocaine and different types of weed (ganja)."
Police arrested seventeen people including one Vikas Jain and registered a case against them at Latasil Police station. On the other hand, as part of Guwahati Police's war on drugs, several drug traffickers have been arrested and large quantities of drugs have been seized in the last 10 days.
Guwahati Police arrested 42 drug traffickers and registered 14 cases in the past 10 days. Total 12.4 kg ganja, 159.7 gm heroin, 14,614 bottles of cough syrup, and 14 vehicles were seized. The police also recovered Rs 5,02,600 in cash.
Meanwhile, Panbazar Police arrested six drug peddlers on Tuesday and recovered 10 gm heroin. The arrested drug peddlers have been identified as Ayan Bora, Abdul Sulaiman, Debanga Das, Amar Rai, Rashidul Ali, and Zarina Khatun.
Paltan Bazar Police also arrested two drug peddlers on Tuesday and seized 25 vials of drugs from their possession. The drug peddlers have been identified as Ramakanta Sarma, Suryakanta Sarma. They had hidden the vials of drugs in their shoes. They both were arrested by Manipuri Basti.
