GUWAHATI: The first Guwahati International Documentary – Short - Animation Film Festival (GIDSAFF), 2019 organized by Jyoti Chitraban in association with Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute (DBHRGFTI), was a three-day affair which ended on January 24 (Thursday).
Assam cabinet Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister of Cultural Affairs Naba Kumar Doley, Film Maker from Vietnam Christopher Upham, Film Maker from Manipur Boko Khoraijam and others were present during the closing.
Minister of Cultural Affairs Naba Kumar Doley expressed his contentment at the success of GIDSAFF and thanked the organizers for arranging the event. “Film Festivals are well organized in various parts of the world and with GIDSAFF, Assam has proved that it will not lag behind. It will hold its place in Film Festivals along with the rest of the world. For regional directors, this platform is a golden opportunity”, Doley commented.
The closing film of GIDSAFF was the short film Mistake, directed by Boko Khoijam. The story begins by a slip-up text from a girl to her father instead of her boyfriend. The 7 minutes 47-second film revolves around the reaction of the father after the error.
The film was the closing film in SURI Short Film Festival in West Bengal and was also screened in Nigeria Film Festival, Tezpur Regional Film Festival, and Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival. The film will screen in Arab Film Festival and Dubai Film Festival later in the year. It will also be a part of the Kite Festival on January 27. “The trend of Film Festivals is slowly creeping its way into Assam”, said Boko who started his career in 2016 and is planning a feature film later this year.
