CLP (Congress Legislature Party) pays tribute to Tarun Gogoi

GUWAHATI: The CLP (Congress Legislature Party) paid tribute to former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at a function at the Central Hall of the Assam Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
Senior Left leader and MLA Hamen Das admitted Late Tarun Gogoi's contributions to the State and said, "Late Gogoi was always against dividing policies and he wanted development through unity. He was with all organizations and parties during the agitation against the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) even though there were ideological differences among the parties. It's high time we got united on issues to fight the current fascism in the State."
Speaking on the occasion, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia said, "We need to translate Late Gogoi's ideology into reality."
Former SAKP (Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad) leader Charan Deka said, "When Late Gogoi came to power in the State, the economic condition of Assam had been such that salaries couldn't be paid to teachers and other employees. The SAKP gave him a ten-month deadline to fulfil its demands. And he rose to the occasion and fulfilled most of the demands."
Former Assembly Speaker Prithibi Majhi, former ministers Rakibul Hussain and Nilomoni Sen Deka, former MP Dwijen Sarma, Congress leader Hiranya Bora, MP Abdul Khaleque, AIUDFLP Leader Hafiz Bashir Ahmed and others also spoke on the occasion. Present at the function were former Speaker Tanka Bahadur Roy, MLAs Rupjyoti Kurmi, Nandita Das, Rekibuddin Ahmed, Kamalakshya Dey Purkayastha, Jakir Hussain and others.
