GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a solid waste processing plant at the Maa Kamakhya Mandir, Guwahati, on Friday.
The plant has been set up by the temple committee expending over Rs. 1 crore from their fund. After inaugurating the plant, Chief Minister Sarma spoke to the media and lauded the Mandir committee's effort. He said that the mandir committee's work is praiseworthy and it would help reprocess the waste in the temple campus.
"I am grateful to the mandir committee for giving me the chance to inaugurate the solid waste processing plant. They have constructed it spending more than Rs. 1 crore from their own fund," he added.
The plant will help produce incense sticks from the flowers offered by the devotees at the altar of Maa Kamakhya.
Chief Minister Sarma also said about the inauguration of Shankaracharya's memorial at the Kedarnath by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. He said that a new project has been implemented in the Kedarnath for the devotees and visitors.
The operations for the solid waste management plant set up at Maa Kamakhya Devalaya started five years back. The plant was set up as part of the Swachta Abhiyan pilot scheme.
