GUWAHATI: Following Wednesday's security breach in Punjab involving the Prime Minister's convoy, the Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday organised yagyas and pujas across the State to pray for the longevity of Narendra Modi.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and State BJP president Bhabesh Kalita participated in a 'Rudra Yagya' at the Ugratara temple here to wish a 100-year lifespan for the Prime Minister.
The Chief Minister accused the Congress of trying to "murder the Prime Minister."
Sarma said, "A man who is tirelessly working for Maa Bharti with blessings of a billion people cannot be harmed by unscrupulous elements."
Sarma said that he also prayed for good sense to prevail upon the Congress leadership. "They cannot eliminate the Prime Minister in this way", he said, adding, "This incident has once again exposed the mentality of the Congress party."
While condemning the incident, Sarma warned that repetition of such incidents will not be tolerated by the people of the country as well as the karyakartas (workers) of the BJP party.
