GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has laid stress on procedural simplification in disposing of government matters and urged the officers to do away with the archaic file management system.

The Chief Minister said this while speaking as chief guest at the workshop organized for the senior government officers starting from Secretary to the Chief Secretary on 'Ways and means to enhance the efficiency of government machinery' at Assam Administrative Staff College in Guwahati on Monday.

During the workshop, a threadbare discussion took place on matters related to administrative reform, financial reform and implementation of government schemes wherein the ministers shared their experience for timely intervention.

While outlining the priority of his government, the Chief Minister said that the next 5 years should be the beginning of a new era in Assam. He said that all senior officers have tremendous potentiality and they should utilize this for the welfare of the people.

Further, the Chief Minister said that in the performance index, some departments have moved forward from good to better and now it is the time to achieve the best. Systematic reforms in governance should be the goal; Sarma said with a call for procedural simplification in disposing government matters.

The CM directed to come up with a roadmap for expeditious disposal of files and bring in a system that effectively eliminates red-tapism. He also asked the officers to take necessary steps for framing new rules, if there is any need to ensure speedy disposal of files.

Further in tandem with the vision of the State government to make Assam one of the five best States of the country, the Chief Minister urged all senior officers to work collectively. He also stressed on speedy implementation of the e-office management system at Janata Bhawan and at district offices along with developing a better work environment, stated a release.
