CM Sarbananda Sonowal asks DCs to aid good governance

Government to roll out Arundhati Scheme on January 1

GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal asked the deputy commissioners of the districts to develop a ‘spirit of collectivism and belongingness’ in implementing Central and State government schemes, touring districts extensively, addressing the public frequently and adopting a rigorous working style to pass on the fruits of good governance to the people of the state.

Holding a video conference with the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) to review the implementation of government schemes at the conference hall of Chief Minister’s office in Janata Bhawan on Thursday, Sonowal made it eloquently clear to complete the implementation of welfare schemes on a war footing for all sections of the people, especially the poor, farmers, villagers and women.

Sonowal said the Government of Assam for the first time has adopted the programme to allot land pattas to the indigenous people on a large scale and asked the DCs to complete the process of allotting land pattas to one lakh beneficiaries by 31 March of the current financial year. He also asked the DCs to generate awareness in their respective districts for the beneficiaries to take the benefits of Arundhati Scheme which Government of Assam will roll out for the newly registered married couple from January 1, 2020. It may be noted that under the scheme a married couple will be given Rs. 30, 000 for the purchase of jewellery.

Sonowal, while taking stock of the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, asked the DCs to expeditiously implement the scheme to provide ‘dignity and shelter’ to the beneficiaries. He also asked the DCs to look for land in consultation with the Chief Executive Office of Zila Parishad and Revenue Circle Officers for the landless beneficiaries to construct houses and give shelter under PMAY scheme. Sonowal also set a target on the part of DCs for giving land on government value to the landless beneficiaries. Sonowal also asked the DCs to decide on the possibility of setting Adarsha Village to accommodate villagers under the scheme.

The Chief Minister also asked the DCs to create awareness on Kushal Konwar Old Age Pension Scheme and Widow Pension Scheme for bringing more beneficiaries under the schemes of direct financial inclusion. He also requested the DCs to expeditiously identify land in tea garden areas in consultation with other stakeholders for setting up high schools.

He also took stock of the schemes under 14th Finance Commission and asked the DCs to organize their men and machinery for the implementation of the schemes. Sonowal also reviewed the schemes like Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sanman Nidhi, Ghore Ghore Phukuri Ghore Ghore Maach, Atal Amrit Abhiyan, CM Free Diagnostic Scheme, AYUSHMAN Bharat, PMGSY, Ujjawala and Saubhagya schemes.

The Chief Minister also asked SPs to oversee the construction of police stations under MOITRI scheme and ensure their early completion. He also asked the DCs and SPs take the confidence of local people and involve them as important stakeholders for the success of the government schemes in the State, a press release said.

Media Adviser to the Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami, Legal Adviser Santanu Bharali, Additional Chief Secretary Home, Political and Revenue Kumar Sanjay Krishna, Additional Chief Secretaries V. S. Bhaskar, Manindar Singh, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Sanjay Lohia, Additional DGP GP Singh and other senior officers of the government were present at the conference.
