GUWAHATI: The SAKP (Sadou Asam Karmachari Parishad) has demanded of the government to spell out its stand on the free of cost medical services scheme for employees before the issuance of notification for the State Assembly election.

In a statement issued to the media on Sunday, SAKP secretary general Mrinal Das said, "If the government doesn't spell out its stand on the free medical services to employees, it should hike medical allowances for employees.

"For about a decade the employees of the State have been demanding the government of free medical services to the employees, but to no avail. Both the Sixth and the Seventh Pay Commissions favoured free medical insurances instead of hiking medical allowance. This matter has been discussed with the Chief Minister, the Heath Minister and other top bureaucrats.

"At a meeting with Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on September 30, 2020, he entrusted the NHM (National Health Mission) Director to prepare a roadmap for the free medical services to the employees. The Minister assured us of implementing free medical services from February 1, 2021. At another meeting with the Chief Minister and the Health Minister on December 23, 2020, we were assured that the free medical services for employees will be implemented from February 1, 2021. However, nothing happened as yet."
