GUWAHATI: The Assam State Primary Teachers' Association (ASPTA) has appealed to the Education Minister to take a decision to conduct the Chief Minister's Special Scholarship Examination 2020. The ASPTA stated that the State government will organize a meeting at the Education Department on Tuesday to discuss when to conduct the HS and HSLC examinations. In a memorandum submitted to the Education Minister, the ASPTA has stressed that the decision to conduct the scholarship examination should be taken at the same meeting.
"The scholarship examination is the first step in a students' academic life to get recognition. After 2012, the name of the scholarship was changed to Chief Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme. Similarly, the scholarship amount was also changed. Under this scheme, as many as 50,000 students provided scholarship of Rs 5,000," a statement by ASPTA in-charge president Anwar Hussain read.
ASPTA general secretary Ratul Chandra Goswami has underlined that the scholarship examination for 2020 was scheduled to be held in January this year. However, as the academic year of the students were affected due to the pandemic, the examinations were postponed till April, he said.
"Unfortunately, due to the outbreak of the second wave of the COVID-19 in the State, the examinations have not yet been conducted. The Elementary Education Department has not yet taken any step in this regard. Thus we urged the Education Minister to take a decision on the conduct of the examinations during the meeting at the Education Department," Goswami added.
