GUWAHATI: In the interests of the existence of the community, as many as 19 Koch-Rajbongshi organizations have reached a consensus for the creation of the Kamatapur Autonomous Council (KAA).
AKRSU (All Koch-Rajbongshi Students' Union) general secretary Gogkul Barman made this announcement public in the presence of the leaders of the other 18 organizations at a press meet at Dispur Press Club here on Thursday.
Barman said, "We demand the State government to form the interim Council with people from various Koch-Rajbongshi organizations who have been associated with socio-political affairs of the community. We've also formed a unanimous list of the Council and submitted it to the government to form the interim Council.
"We also raise the demand for meeting the assurance of Rs 5 lakh as ex gratia to each of the Koch-Rajbongshi martyrs and a government job to a next of kin of each of them. An assurance to this regard was given by State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at the AKRSU's martyrs' day programme on January 7, 2021."
Barman also appealed to the Finance Minister to speed up the process for the submission of the State government's report to the Centre for according ST status to the community. He also said that the merger of the two factions of the AKRSU would be a reality soon in the interests of the community.
