GUWAHATI: The State Level Police Recruitment Board has announced the results of the recruitment examination for posts of constables in various wings under the Assam Police.
The selected candidates include 88 per cent men and 12 per cent women.
A total of 4,270 constables have been selected for the district Armed Branch (AB) and Unarmed Branch (UB), including 3,910 men and 360 women. A total of 2,391 constables have been selected for the Unarmed Branch, including 1,822 men and 569 women.
A total of 1,462 constables have been selected for the Assam Police Radio Organization (APRO), including 1,380 men and 82 women.
A total of 631 constables have been selected for the Home Guards, including 546 men and 85 women.
Results have been declared for 8,754 posts. Results for selection of 154 posts of constables for SPO have been put on hold in view litigation in the Gauhati High Court.
The examination was conducted for recruitment to 9,171 posts. The total number of applicants were 3,66,840, which meant that there were around 45 applicants against each post. Then around 36 candidates appeared against each post in the physical test. Finally, around 15 candidates appeared against each post in the written examination.
Assam's Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said that the recruitment process was carried out without nepotism or any other sort of irregularity.
