GUWAHATI: The CPI (ML) Assam State Committee and Hill Party Committee, comprising Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts, organized a civic convention with the aim of ending conflict and restoring peace in Manipur at the Gauhati Press Club on Monday.
The convention was attended by Chana Jaba of the Meitei community of Manipur and Leminlal Neitham of the Kuki community. Both of them expressed concern over the situation in Manipur and appealed to the people present to take steps regarding the situation in Manipur. Both speakers said that despite the conflict between the two communities in Manipur, they had learned to live in peaceful coexistence. But they could never have imagined such a cruel and violent situation in their 75 years of independence.
The convention was conducted by CPI (ML) Central Committee member Balindra Saikia, Assam State Committee member Naren Borah. The aim of the conference was expressed by Bibek Das.
The conference was attended by prominent musician Loknath Goswami, prominent journalist Nayan Bhuyan, Allen Brook of the North East Peace Forum, IIT Guwahati Professor Basundhara Jayarath, Cotton College Professor Rituraj Kalita, Gauhati High Court Advocate Kishore Kalita, and Hill Party Committee Secretary Rabi Kumar Fanchu, Pragatishil Nari Sanstha Assam State secretary Mrinali Devi, and prominent artist Raviram Brahma. The AICCTU state leaders Biren Kalita, Subhash Sen, Pankaj Kumar Das, former general secretary of the Power Workers Union Dinesh Goswami, and other leaders of various parties and organizations participated in the conference.
The people in the convention unanimously expressed concern over how the Union government is not taking any steps to restore peace in Manipur. In the interest of peace in Manipur, they demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Biren Singh. They took a resolution of participating in a peace march with educators, artists, writers, journalists, and people from various sections.
