GUWAHATI: As remedial measures for prevention of the outbreak of coronavirus, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) under the supervision of its Commissioner Devajyoti Hazarika has started fogging in different departments, government premises, public places and market places etc., besides sanitizing greater Guwahati city.

Two teams carried out fogging in four wards on Friday and Saturday. A few of the areas covered on these two days are Noonmati, New Guwahati, Ganesh Mandir Road and Sub Byelane 1 to 3, Khanapara Veterinary Field, the rear side of Down Town Hospital, Maniram Dewan Trade Centre, Sarusajai Sports Complex, Uzan Bazar area, Rehabari near Srikant Hotel & surrounding area etc.

Besides fogging, the GMC has continued sanitization in all the six divisions since March 24 covering each and every ward, lane, bye-lane, remote & backward area, hilly terrain including the inaccessible areas. A total of 91 NGOs under six divisions and trained manpower are involved in the sanitization programme as central sanitization team. The sanitization is being done using six fire tenders along with mini fire tenders (deployed by Fire & Emergency Service Assam), two Varun vehicles (deployed by Assam Police) and 200 mist blowers and 20 agriculture spraying machines.

As stated by GMC in a press release, the sanitization programme is divided into three categories and besides sanitizing wards, lanes, bye-lanes, remote & backward areas, hilly terrains, the corporation is regularly sanitizing quarantine centres, quarantined homes, COVID testing centres, containment zones and 104 ambulances.
