GUWAHATI: The spectre of Covid-19 has resurfaced in the Kamrup (M) district with as many as 18 new cases being detected here on Saturday alone.

The total number of Covid-19 cases detected statewide on Saturday was 26 out of 488 tests that were carried out, with a positivity rate of 5.33 per cent.

According to data of the National Health Mission (NHM), Assam, 70 Covid-19 cases were detected in the district from September 28 to October 7.

According to physicians, the comparative increase in Covid-19 cases may be attributed to change in weather and there is no need to panic. However, precautions must be taken by all citizens, they said.

Talking to The Sentinel, principal-cum-chief superintendent of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Achyut Chandra Baishya said that while precaution dose of Covid-19 vaccine is still being administered at the hospital, the number of beneficiaries has decreased. He urged all those who have not taken the precaution dose to take it as soon as possible.

It may be mentioned that as of 8 pm on Sunday, only 32,38,308 people have taken the precaution dose of Covid-19 vaccine. On the other hand, 2,47,79,157 people have taken the first dose and 2,20,30,317 people have taken the third dose.
