GUWAHATI: The CPI (Communist Party of India), Assam State Council has demanded the State government to make COVID vaccination free for all.

"The State government promised to vaccinate three lakh people every day. However, the State is witnessing a shortage of vaccines. On the other hand, the positive cases are increasing every day and Morigaon, Biswanath, Goalpara, and Bokakhat subdivision of Golaghat district has been declared as containment zones," said CPI Assam State Council secretary Munin Mahanta.

The leader underlined that the infection rate in the State is not yet below two and it is standing at 2.76 per cent.

"The curfew has been relaxed in 10 districts including Kamrup Metro. The curfew will be imposed from 5 pm to 5 am. Meanwhile, the gathering of people has increased in the 10 districts due to the relaxed curfew. Thus, the chance for infection is growing. Recently, several children were detected COVID positive in Jorhat and Dibrugarh," said Mahanta.

The CPI appealed to the Health Department to work wholeheartedly so that children are not infected with the virus.

They demanded an abundance of the vaccine in every centre to avoid panic among the public due to its unavailability.

Further, the CPI stressed that the Centre's decision to allocate 25 per cent vaccine to private hospitals will create a black market for the vaccine.

The party also demanded monthly financial assistance of Rs 7,500 for the next six months to the affected daily wage earners.
