CPI-M Kamrup Metro District Committee decries price rise of essential commodities

GUWAHATI: A demonstration called by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Kamrup Metro District Committee was held here on Wednesday against the price hike of essential commodities.

Several leaders from various organizations took part in the demonstration including - CPI (M) Central Committee member SuprakashTalukdar, Kamrup Metro Secretary Council member KashyapChoudhury, District Committee member Sangita Das, and CITU (Centre of Indian Trade Unions) Assam State committee general secretary TapanSarma.

The leaders also delivered speeches during the demonstration wherein they strongly criticized the economic policies of the Central and State governments.

They said the government is only to serve the capitalists not the common people. Slamming the role of Civil Supplies Minister, the protestors submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the District Commissioner.

Further, the CPI (M)demanded that the government should fix the prices of essential commodities and also strengthen the Public Distribution System. It asserted that the essential commodities should be arranged by the government at fair price.
