CPI (M) Protest Agitation Against Erratic Water Supply

GUWAHATI: The city is slowly becoming inhospitable without the life-sustaining element, water in various areas. Reports of water shortage are a constant grumble of the city residents, especially among the slum areas. In this view, a proper arrangement to tackle the serious crisis of dearth of water supply by the government has been raised.

The CPI (M) held a protest demonstration in demand for a permanent solution regarding the problem of water supply. CPI (M) Guwahati Regional Committee Secretary Kashyap Chowdhury expressed his indignation at the hitch in water supply and commented that a thorough CBI probe should be made into the matter. “The irregularities in water supply need to be methodically investigated and the government needs to quicken its pace with the water supply schemes”, he conditioned.

Chowdhury further demanded a free water supply of at least 20 thousand litres for every family. He mandated that the slum areas should be declared so that development can take place, the responsibility of which should be assigned to one particular department. Putting forth these demands, the committee staged a protest demonstration in front of the DC office in Guwahati on Monday. Thereafter, the DC held a meeting with delegates of the committee and assured that he would take the matter up with the concerned department and try to resolve the crisis. He further ascertained that he will fix an assembly for the CPI (M) with the Guwahati Development Minister at the earliest.
