GUWAHATI: At a time when the SI recruitment scam has been rocking the State, the sleuths of the Crime Branch of Guwahati Police arrested a person who had taken cash in huge amounts from around 50 candidates promising them of government jobs.
On Friday night, sleuths of the Crime Branch arrested Rajib Parashar from GS Raod near Christianbasti in Guwahati.
Talking to the media here on Saturday, Guwahati Police Commissioner MP Gupta said, "Rajib Parashar was arrested based on information regarding him. According to information, he collected huge amounts of cash from various candidates with the promise of giving them jobs in various departments, including NF Railway. To this effect, a case (15/2020 u/s 418/420/120(B) IPC) was registered against him in the Crime Branch Police station. A number of witnesses have been interrogated, and the interrogation reveals that Parashar is a fraud."
Parashar was produced before the CJM Court on Saturday. The Court sent him to three-day police custody.
According to police sources, Parashar hails from Jamugurihat in Sonitpur district and currently staying at a flat in the Six Mile area in the city by paying Rs 15,000 per month as rent. He has taken cash from jobless youths from Sootea, Jamugurihat, Biswanath Chariali etc places. His bank details will be examined from Monday, the police said, and added that his laptop and other documents were seized from his flat.
The Crime Branch also seized a Scorpio car from his possession.
