GUWAHATI: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Assam police was able to trace and freeze Rs. 2,85,584 in regard to an incident of cyber fraud in the state.

CID was working based on the complaint filed by Basab Bijoy Goswami from Baisistha Chariali, Guwahati, on June 15 regarding an incident that led to the fraud of Rs 2,85,584. Taking immediate action regarding the same, the CID was able to freeze the whole amount. The CID contacted the nodal bank officers to trace the amount. It was found out that the money was routed to two different wallets by the fraudsters. The fraudsters tricked the victim into recharging his APDCL prepaid metre on the pretext of disconnection of electricity supply and finally duped him out of Rs 2,85,584 in three installments.

CID, Assam, has asked the citizens to be vigilant and not share their OTP, CVV, pin, or passwords with any strangers or click on any links, and also not respond to call messages identifying APDCL without proper verification. Also, if any citizen is faced with any financial cybercrime, it is advised to call immediately at 1930 or register an FIR with the local police.
